What is Chroma Hive?

Chroma Hive is a cutting-edge system combining artificial intelligence with the natural behavior of bees to analyze pollen color diversity and indirectly estimate plant biodiversity in various ecosystems.

Why Bees and Pollen?

Bees are responsible for pollinating approximately 60–70% of plants globally. The color of the pollen they collect acts as a “biological fingerprint” linked to specific plant species, allowing us to map the local flora through color analysis.

How Does the System Work?

We equip bee pollen traps with AI cameras and sensors powered by Raspberry Pi. These devices capture images of pollen loads as bees enter the hive. Using advanced image processing and machine learning, the system identifies pollen colors and classifies them according to a reference database. The data is then sent via low-cost SMS messages to a central data center for further analysis.

Applications and Benefits

Chroma Hive provides beekeepers, scientists, and environmental agencies with automated, real-time insights into plant biodiversity. Our user-friendly mobile and desktop applications offer dynamic visualizations such as heatmaps and graphs, aiding ecological monitoring and informed decision-making.
